Coventry RI Community Bike Bank
The Coventry, Rhode Island, community “Bike Bank” was a passion project for town special duties clerk Melissa Soares when she contacted Outback Storage about acquiring a used shipping container for the project. An avid biker herself, Ms. Soares wanted to share her joy of biking with her community and reduce waste in her community. The project aligned perfectly with Outback Storage Containers owner, Keith Tremblay’s love of mountain biking. Keith was an assistant coach in the New England High School Cycling Association for several years and enjoys supporting the biking community through trail clearing and cleanups and sponsoring a local youth cycling team.

How To Set Up A Permanent Ramp On Your Storage Container

I'm often asked how to easily set up a ramp that can be left attached to your shipping container and not have to move the ramps every time you open or close the doors. This is the best way I've figured out how to do this. The ramp I'm using is kind of pricey but it's non skid, rated for 10,000 lbs, and very convenient.

    What a life saver. I install consumer garage doors and used to manage a storage facility. Got the owner to let me learn on his when they break for a discount on the labor. That was the easiest $300 bucks in 30 minutes of my life. You'd have to be a high end whore to make that money with less effort.

    do you always carry high cube containers on a step deck trailer in north America? In the UK we can have trailers up to 16ft3 so we can use normal trailers, but in the rest of Europe they are restricted to 13ft3 so have to use a truck with a low 5th wheel height usually 950mm (around 37 inches) because step frame trailers would be too long for European roads

    How much connection to the ground do containers need. In transport they are usually just held in place by straps or chains. If you're using your shipping container on flat ground and there's nothing nearby that it could damage or nothing connected to it that could be damaged and it moves a little bit during an earthquake it may not be a problem. If the container could fall down a hill during an earthquake then you have a different problem. If you live in an area where strong winds, tornadoes and hurricanes might happen then you have a different set of problems. Also depending on what's stored inside the container some things are more easily damaged or dangerous. There may be many additional things to consider depending on the use and situation.

    • @StorageContainers
      @StorageContainers 3 роки тому

      Agreed. You need to use discretion depending on the area of the world you are in. Here in the Northeast USA, we we don't have the earthquake concern.

      That's not my machine. I delivered the containers and shot the video of the guy with his machines so I can't measure it. I'd say you're good as the door opening of a high cube container is 8' 5" tall. It'll be close though for sure. Still, I would double check the door opening with the container you're going to purchase as well as your machine before the container shows up just to make sure. Either way, you need a high cube.

    If I were to place a container in one spot for the foreseeable future I would use four deep concrete piers and possibly place steel weld plates on them to weld the container to the piers. Guaranteed to stay in place empty even in a high wind event or possible tornado. Spend a few dollars up front so it doesn't cost you more time, money, and aggravation the years to follow.

      And a vent or two....

    • @davej7458
      @davej7458 3 роки тому

      Venting is always a improvement. There have been some explosions in non vented almost air tight shipping containers that had gasoline or propane stored in them. Also think gas tanks on your lawn mower, ATV or garden tractors. As I recall gasoline fumes from one gallon of gasoline are equivalent to 16 sticks of dynamite more or less. Vents low to let heavier-than-air things such as propane drain out and vents high to let lighter than air fumes such as gasoline out. They will also allow air to circulate to reduce overheating and to keep the humidity under control. Remember to rainproof the vents they need a bit of covering to keep rain from draining in but to still let air circulate. Also a screen of some sort to keep the bugs, mice, rats and snakes out.
